Good Evening and Welcome to Spring Break! I can see that this will be good practice for getting the posts done in a reasonable time frame- summer is coming after all! We had a lot of running around today but I am looking forward to a quieter day at home tomorrow... we shall see.
The card today was started way back on Thursday- this is the one that missed the target sketch by a good mile (or two)! Lucky for me I was able to find a sketch challenge today that worked with what I already had, Crazy 4 Challenges had the perfect layout and the Split Coast colors (Creamy Pink Durangos) worked beautifully as well. My flower today was done a bit differently... I was looking for that waxy texture like geraniums have, so I pulled out my crystal effects to see what I could do. After mixing some re-inker into the crystal effects (caramel and durango) I painted each flower and set it aside to dry. {Make sure to clean your brush well between colors and when finished} After cooking and eating dinner I came back to the studio and.... gorgeous! As usual anything shiny is tricky to photograph, but it truly has a waxy look to it! I layered all the flower pieces together and finished it with a brad. I then puddled a bit of the durango crystal effects on the brad and sprinkled on some dazzling diamonds glitter. When that was almost dry I smushed (ha, even spell checker is no match for paper crafting technical terms!) it down with a fingertip. The decorated panel under the flower is fabric by the way- (from basic grey)-wrapped around some card stock for heft and layered on the Close to Cocoa piece with dimensionals. The cocoa cs is layered onto the naturals white cs using the slit punch. I love the look using this punch gives the corners- a bit of snap without competing with all the other elements.
Stamptacular was craving some Flower Power and A Spoonful of Sugar challenged all to create bookmarks. As you need a delivery method for the bookmark, putting it on a card seemed logical to me.
So I decide to make my flower removable! This piece is held on with ultra thin magnets on the inside of the Creamy Caramel, not only does it keep it on the card- it will stay in your book, right where you put it. The card also still looks good since there is enough going on in the fabric to keep it interesting.
Last but not least is the challenge from Split Coast- New Techniques: they call it Inside Out but what it boils down to is keeping the party going, even after they open the card. Here is a pic of the inside with the book mark hanging out to enjoy the view as well!
These flowers were cut out of a co-coordinating fabric and adhered using Designer Filigree brads and plain silver brads, with some pink satin ribbon to anchor it all down.
Have a great week everyone- Hopefully I will be getting these done earlier in the day- if not I will have to become a midnight poster or something!
Keep On Inking!
