Yup! It is that time of week again! Time for Kristina Werner's color challenge #35-- my third challenge and I am definitely hooked! These are so much fun to do! Sometimes I think that I have way too many items to choose from in my craft room and these challenges make me really think- since I can't take the easy way out, my creative vibe gets all charged up! Here are this weeks colors:
Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze, So Saffron and Vanilla.
For my design this week I not only took inspiration from the colors, but also from the dimensionality of the item in the photograph. This is a small portion of a very cute sweater apparently and I wanted to keep the warm, soft look going on here. So my card has layers, a lot of layers...12 in all! (-if you count the ribbons!) I started with a base of Chocolate Chip and then went to town!
I used every stamp in the Wanted set, mostly to make my own background paper... I used So Saffron, Baja Breeze and Close to Cocoa inks but stamped off first. For the "Wanted" sign, I first inked up using Baja and then used a Chocolate marker to hit the edges of the letters, I didn't worry too much about getting every bit marked, I like the look don't you? After trimming it very closely, I layered it onto Close to Cocoa and set it aside for a minute. On to the saffron piece. This was layered onto a piece of Baja, cut just 1/8" larger, and then wrapped up with layered Vanilla 5/8" grosgrain and Chocolate 1/4" grosgrain, to finish I popped the word on with dimensionals and was ready for the next section!
For the middle section I again layered my "background" paper onto Baja, and this time wrapped it only with the 1/4" chocolate grosgrain. The Vanilla was sponged with Chocolate ink and distressed before adhering it to the Baja with dimensionals.
Finally, my focus image! The pony was stamped in Chocolate Chip ink and I sponged the edges with both Saffron and Choc. Chip inks. The star was given the same treatment as the words, only with Saffron this time! This was layered onto a marginally bigger, sponged and distressed So Saffron which in turn was snailed right to a Baja piece. All of this was popped onto Close to Cocoa with dimensionals! This was snailed to the middle section and for the last touch a half pearl was snuck in with a glue dot to keep it safely attached.
Phew! I did mention that there were many, many, many layers did I not? I hope that you enjoy seeing and reading about this card as much as I did making it! Some cards are fabulous-- they just come together easily, with each idea translating from noggin to paper smoothly- this was one of those cards for me! I really like to relish the moment because I know the next card might be the one that tips me over the edge!
Keep on Inking!

This is so fantastic. Love how you created such beautiful background paper using the stamps. Touching the letters with the marker was clever and I adore the result. Kris and I both plan to play this color challenge.

Oh, this is so pretty! I love the different looking layout and all the layers came together so well!

I really like the treatment you did with the letters. The fact that it's distressed looking ties it in so nicely with your card.
